Obviously buying kit is a personal choice and what is good for one person may be a disaster for another, so we would always recommend you try before you buy.
At the end of the day, while having kit can increase the enjoyment you don't need the best money can buy to have a great time. So get out there and enjoy!

The mountain database contains details of all 3000 peaks in UK over 150m. You can browse by area or all the major ticklists including Munros and Wainwrights.
